Storm watch for what will be a messy commute both later this morning and then also tonight. So joining us now to tell us how the crews are preparing in the town of Hempstead is the supervisor John Ferretti. John, good morning. Thanks for joining us. Wet roads, cold temperatures, not a great mix. Tell us how the town is preparing. Good morning, Rich. Good morning, Aaron. Thank you for having me. You're 100% right. We're expecting a possible nor'easter, uh, starting around 6 a.m. running through the evening. Uh, although we don't anticipate a significant amount of accumulation of snow, there will likely be between 1 and 2 inches of rain. And so as a precaution, I've directed the town of Hempstead storm response team to clear storm drains, secure loose items, ready pumps and response equipment, and that's especially in low lying and coastal neighborhoods. So while the snow accumulation is not expected to be significant, there will be a strong wintry mix combined with strong winds. Uh, it could make the roads very slick, especially early in the day during the commute. So we encourage residents to monitor local advisories, avoid driving through flooded roads, and allow Extra travel time while traveling to work this morning. And of course, as always, to report a downed tree or blocked roadway in the town of Hempstead, please feel free to fill out our storm response form and help us out, and you can do that at Hempsteadtown.com/storm. And of course people see rain and they're like, OK, we'll take it slow, but this one's pretty bad and it's all day long. So just another reminder to just keep it safe on the road while traveling. Storm watch for what will be a messy commute both later this morning and tonight. And joining us right now to tell us how crews are preparing in the town of Islip is the supervisor Angie Carpenter. Angie, thanks so much for joining us, and we know, of course, your town on the South Shore, you have problems with flooding on people's homes. Also the roads though, the roads will become very dangerous as this rain kind of ramps up throughout the day. And from what we're hearing from Rich, it seems like it's going to be pretty heavy and pretty steady. Uh, sustained over a couple of hours. So, uh, we've been at the ready. Our crews have been out there. Our, uh, commissioner of Public Works, Tom Owens and his team have been out there making sure that all drains are clear, uh, that all the equipment is ready. Uh, Vinny in the in the shop made sure that everything is ready to go. So, uh, we're just waiting for it to start and uh do what we need to do as always. That's a good point, Angie, about the drains keeping them clear. We still have a lot of leaves out on the roadways, but also it's that time of year now where every storm you, you look at it and you say, is this going to be rain? Is this gonna be snow? Is it going to be ice? And the impact is real for all of us. Well, it looks like we've lucked out right now it's about 36 degrees, so uh it looks like the temperature is going to be steady or rising a little bit. So, uh, the thought of snow and sleet certainly isn't in on uh our radar, thank God. Town of Islip supervisor Angie Carpenter, thanks so much for joining us and talking about. Yes, thanks so much. Joe, thanks for joining us. Uh, tell us how the town is preparing. Good morning, everyone. It it is cold. It is raw, it's overcast and the wind is starting to kick up now. We're gonna have some bad weather today, so we're asking everyone to be prepared. Get out early. Make sure there's plenty of space between you and the car in front of you because it will be very slippery on the roads down here on the south shore of the town of. Oyster Bay in Massapequa, the biggest threat is the beach. We hope that we don't get a lot of erosion, but that is always the concern. We'll be keeping a very close look at that. Meanwhile, our crews have been out. Our equipment is ready. The drains have been cleaned. We've taken every step, and now it's up to Mother Nature. Oyster Baytown supervisor Joe Saladino, I mean, you just give us such great reports. I mean, it's almost like you're reporting on the weather. Should Rich Hoffman worry about his job? When you work with people as professional as rich, Aaron and this rich, you gotta step up your game. Where do you get the best reports, the up to-date news, the hyper local weather nowhere else is better than News 12 Long Island. I promise you that we don't tell him to say that.
