Wednesday, Sept. 17, is “Constitution Day.” It marks the day that the United States Constitution was signed in 1787. Documentary filmmakers Ken Burns and Sarah Botstein marked the day with a special screening in Newark of their new film “The American Revolution.”
The screening came after a teacher and student workshop discussing the importance of the American Revolution and the role New Jersey played in the founding of the country.
"New Jersey is at the crossroads of the story of the American Revolution and too often gets skipped in our superficial versions of the war. We start in Boston, then Lexington, then Concord and we maybe remember Trenton,” Burns said.
The event was hosted by the Murphy administration. About 1,000 students were in attendance.
