Another dead whale washed ashore at the Jersey Shore.
Experts have identified the dead whale as a juvenile minke whale, the second minke to die in two weeks. The whale was found floating at the Leonardo Marina in Middletown, according to Mayor Tony Perry.
This is now the 15th dead whale to die at or near the Jersey Shore since December. More whales have been stranded in New Jersey this year than in any other state on the East Coast.
According to witnesses, they saw the whale swim in circles in shallow water Wednesday afternoon near the marina before it became stranded and died.
This death came just hours after Clean Ocean Action renewed called for a pause on offshore wind activity.
Officials say they are working to remove the whale. News 12 New Jersey was told the Marine Mammal Stranding Center will visit the location where the whale died to do a necropsy to help figure out why and how it died.
